After scalping the first five batsmen of the Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) U-22 side in a CK Nayudu match at DY Patil Stadium here on Saturday, Iqbal Abdulla dreamt of achieving Anil Kumble’s ‘Perfect 10’ feat. His dream was, however, shattered by teammate Dhaval Parab who took the sixth wicket. Abdulla nevertheless went on to claim the remaining four to give Mumbai a chance to complete an outright win on the last day of the three-day match. Iqbal took 9 for 69.

“I was dreaming of achieving Kumble’s feat. However, I was unlucky. I am satisfied that I took nine wickets. It will only serve as a morale-booster for the season ahead,” the left-arm spinner told DNA. “I’ve no complaints against Dhaval.”

Mumbai went on to win the match by one wicket. “I just stuck to my basics. Luckily it came at the right time, just before commencement of the Ranji season,” Abdulla, who had match figures 11 for 167, said.

The 19-year-old spinner is now looking forward to the Ranji season. “My aim inshallah is to perform well throughout the season and cement my place in the Mumbai side. It won’t be easy but I am getting good support from my teammates, especially from captain Wasim bhai (Jaffer),” he said.

Abdulla knows he cannot relax as the Mumbai selectors have included another left-arm spinner, Harmeet Singh, in the Ranji squad. “It is always good to have a healthy competition,” Abdulla signed off.

Brief Scores: Jammu & Kashmir 370 & 206 (A Reishi 44, P Rasool 60, I Abdulla 9-69) lost to Mumbai ‘437-5 (O Gurav 175, S Damle 105) & 143 for 9 (O Gurav 71, N Patil Jr 29 no, Manik Gupta 5-49, Parvez Rasool 4-60).
