IPL players can end up being unpaid like 2010 CWG: Katich’s manager

 Dumped Australian opening batsman Simon Katich’s manager has advised any player offered an Indian Premier League (IPL) deal to consider the plight of foreign companies that are yet to be paid by the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games organisers.

Robert Joske also claimed that Katich and several international players have been waiting for months to be paid the Board of Cricket Control India (BCCI)’s outstanding amounts.

“We have been dealing with this matter through Tim May and the Federation of International Cricketers’ Associations,” the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Joske, as saying.

“But I think people from Western countries need to realize [India] doesn’t have the same legal system we have. So, we don’t have the same recourse, as the Commonwealth Games’ suppliers are finding out. It’s very difficult, and things can go haywire,” he added.

Katich had signed a three-year deal with IPL’s Kings XI Punjab team after the inaugural player auction in 2008, but did not play in last year’s tournament.

He and Joske have been fighting to be paid last year’s portion of the contract.
