Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has shrugged off Samir Nasri’s claims that his decision to join Manchester City has nothing to do with money.

Midfielder Nasri tripled his wages with a 175,000 pounds-a-week deal when he left Arsenal for the Etihad Stadium for a 24million pounds fee.

Nasri had earlier claimed that “money is not really a factor,” and that he is much more concerned about the cup.

"Money is not really a factor. I can let people think what they like. Me, I know my choice. It was about football and we will see that at the end of the season when we lift a trophy and talk about my choice again. People who talk about money will see they are wrong," he had said.

However, Redknapp, who is preparing for City's visit tomorrow, refuted such claims.

"I don't believe that, no. He could have gone to Manchester United. They wanted him and he wanted to go to Man Utd really, that's what I heard. But then Man City came in and offered him more money again so he went to Man City. Man Utd are still the biggest team in England. City haven't got the tradition of United, Arsenal or Liverpool,” he said.

"But City are the more powerful club because at the end of the day they can pay wages that Arsenal can't pay. That's your problem. If they're interested, it's a dream move for a player to suddenly go and get £200k a week for five years. They haven't got to worry too much after that, have they?" he added.

Nasri had signed a four-year contract with City on Wednesday and is expected to complete the club's spending in this window. At his official unveiling on Friday, the 24-year-old denied accusing Arsenal supporters of lacking passion, but claimed a lack of investment in proven talent had damaged his former club's prospects of success.

"I am just a player, but when you are at a big club sometimes you have to bring in big players to win. Maybe Arsenal didn't have this mentality," he said.
