The Indian Wrestling Federation (IWF) suffered a big setback just a month before the Commonwealth Games as four wrestlers, including Arjuna Awardee Rajiv Tomar, tested positive in the National Anti Doping Agency (NADA) tests.

Shattered with the incident, IWF immediately announced their replacements for the mega-event, to be held from October 3. The wrestlers, Sumit (74kg), Mausam Khatri (96kg) and Tomar (120kg), in men’s freestyle while Gursharanpreet Kaur (women’s 72kg) tested positive for Methyl Hexa Neamine, a non-specified substance.

“This is shocking for all of us. These wrestlers have regularly undergone random tests for past three years and have never tested positive. They can’t be a part of the CWG,” IWF president GS Mander told DNA.

“The wrestlers are provisionally suspended by the federation and they will also undergo the legal procedure set by NADA and sample ‘B’ test. A committee headed by director general of NADA, Rahul Bhatnagar, will look into the matter. And if the wrestlers are found guilty then they might face a life ban or will have to stay away from the sport for six-months to two years,” added Mander.

Meanwhile, IWF named Narsingh Pancham Yadav (74kg), Anil Mann (96kg), Praveen (120kg) and Anshu Tomar (72kg) as replacement.
