Dravid dropped; Jadeja recalled

Rahul Dravid is back in wilderness, at least in the one-day scheme of things. The former India skipper was dropped for the Australia series starting later this month. The selection committee, which met here on Thursday, recalled fit-again Virender Sehwag and Yuvraj Singh. Both had missed the Champions Trophy because of injuries.

Among other decisions, the selectors handed a national cap to Uttar Pradesh pacer Sudeep Tyagi and retained underfire Delhi speedster Ishant Sharma. “We are very happy that we have selected the best team available. It’s a seven-match series and we’ve enough time to pick team for the rest of the series,” selection committee chairman Krishnamachari Srikkanth told reporters. He, however, refused to field any questions on Dravid. The team has been selected for the first two matches.

Among others who were dropped were Yusuf Pathan, RP Singh, Dinesh Karthik, and Abhishek Nayar. Coming into the squad are Ravindra Jadeja, and Munaf Patel.

Schedule: 1st ODI: Baroda on October 25; 2nd ODI: Nagpur on Oct 28; 3rd ODI: Delhi on Oct 31; 4th ODI: Chandigarh on Nov 2; 5th ODI: Hyderabad on Nov 5; 6th ODI: Guwahati on  Nov 8; 7th ODI: Mumbai on Nov 11
Squad: Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, M S Dhoni (captain/wicketkeeper), Ravindra Jadeja, Harbhajan Singh, Ashish Nehra, Praveen Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Virat Kohli, Amit Mishra, Munaf Patel and Sudeep Tyagi.
