Is Siddharth Trivedi’s bowling under scanner? It seems so if one were to go by sources in  the Board of Control for Cricket in India. The Gujarat pacer’s action has apparently been referred to the BCCI’s expert panel. He, however, was not called by any umpire on the field.

Doubts about his action are believed to have been raised during Gujarat’s Ranji Trophy match against Orissa in Ahmedabad. The match concluded on Friday. It was not immediately known who actually had doubts about the pacer’s action but the matter now rests with BCCI’s expert panel consisting of S Venkataraghavan, AV Jayaprakash and Javagal Srinath. The three experts will study the match footage.

As per BCCI instruction, the umpires should refer the matter to the committee instead of calling him straight on the field. “We have instructed the umpires to be cautious about calling a bowler. It could be a mistake and that mistake could ruin a career. So the matter will be referred to the committee who will study the footage and decide,” a top Board official told DNA. “We have got his footage of last 2-3 years. And we also have new footage. The experts will decide. But expression doubts cannot be construed as suspect action,” he added.

Incidentally, doubts over Trivedi’s action come a day after Gujarat cricket Association got its spinner Monish Parmar ‘cleared’ of suspect action at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. Gujarat team’s consultant Aunshuman Gaekwad took the spinner to the NCA and had his action checked by the NCA staff. The action of another Gujarat pacer, Amit Singh, also came under scanner recently. Coincidentally, both Trivedi and Singh play for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League.

When contacted, Gujarat’s coach and association officials expressed ignorance over the matter. “We have not been told by the umpire or the match referee,” said GCA official Rajesh Patel. Coach Vijay Patel was equally clueless. “I do not know about it,” the coach said.

Meanwhile, there are reports of more players being called for suspect action. Railways spinner Kulamani Parida, who was in contention for an India cap, was called in Delhi recently. What’s more, a woman cricketer from Saurashtra has also been put under suspect category.
