Former England captain David Beckham is likely to extend his contract with MLS side LA Galaxy, turning down the chance to play with the French club Paris Saint Germain.

Italian Carlo Ancelotti, who has taken the mantle as manager of the French side was set to bring Beckham to the club but the 36-year-old decided against a move for the sake of his family.

British daily Guardian reported Tuesday that Beckham is likely to sign a new contract with LA Galaxy.

PSG sporting director Leonardo revealed at Ancelotti's unveiling Friday that Beckham is leaning towards staying in California because he does not want to uproot his wife Victoria and young family for potentially only 18 months.

"It's over. It's a shame. But the welfare of his family in Los Angeles, the wish not not to change everything in his life, weighed heavily," Leonardo was quoted as saying by the Brazilian media.

"He will not come to PSG. It has never been an issue related to the professional side of things, it's his family."

"It would be a difficult decision to take, to move his family to Paris."

"I know him. I have great admiration for him as a player but as a father too. I know these changes are hard."
