Norwegian rider Tony Andre Hansen, who won a bronze medal at the Beijing Olympics but was disqualified because his horse was doped, has lost an appeal against the ruling at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas).

Cas also confirmed a ban and fine on Hansen, a member of the Norwegian team which won bronze in the team jumping competition, after his horse Camiro tested positive for capsaicin, a chilli derivative which is banned for its hypersensitising and pain-relieving properties.

"The Cas has dismissed the appeal filed by the athlete, and has confirmed the decision of the FEI (International Equestrian Federation) tribunal in which the athlete and his horse, Camiro, were disqualified from the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, suspended for four-and-a-half months and fined 3,000 Swiss francs," Cas said in a statement.

Cas said the results of the Norwegian team would be recalculated to exclude Hansen.
