Commonwealth Games's first week may be marred by rain

Though the Indian meteorological department said on Thursday that it expects the monsoon to start withdrawing from the subcontinent around Tuesday, but some showers may still drench the Commonwealth Games in its first week.

“We expect sunny skies,” an optimistic Prithviraj Chauhan, minister of state for earth sciences said while announcing a new weather-mapping system that will be used by the met department.

According to the department’s official stance, the monsoon will withdraw from the capital before the Games begin, on October 3.
Some officials, however, were not so optimistic.  According to the data, conditions are ripe for the beginning of a withdrawal of rain-bearing winds. “We have seen the formation of anti-cyclones in Hindu Kush. But there is a good chance that the signs of withdrawal will reach Delhi after the first week of October,” said a met department official, requesting anonymity.
