Bombay Scottish, Mahim, and St Stanislaus, Bandra, won their respective quarterfinals of the MSSA Ahmed Sailor Boys’ under-16 inter-school knockout football tournament at Azad Maidan on Wednesday. Stanislaus defeated Utpal Sanghvi, Juhu, 3-0, while Scottish thrashed Cathedral and John Connon 5-0.

Bombay Scottish striker Nipun Chauhan continued his good form this season by scoring a hat-trick and midfielder Ahsanali Contractor added a brace in the one-sided affair.

Chauhan said, “We had played Cathedral before in the MSSA league competition before and beaten them 4-0 on that occasion. So we were very confident playing against them this time.”
Utpal Sanghvi, being a division two side, was not expected to stop traditional giants Stanislaus and a difference of class was visible as the Bandra side took the lead despite an energetic display by the opponents. Stanislaus went two goals up in the first half, but were only able to add another goal after a number of easy misses in the second half.

Bombay Scottish and St Stanislaus finished third and fourth in the division one of the MSSA inter-school league and hence were expected to reach the quarterfinals of the knockout competition.
The two sides will fancy their chances of going all the way and winning the title, especially since tournament favorites and current MSSA league champions Don Bosco, Matunga, were knocked out by St Mary’s SSC.

At the whistle:
Ahmed Sailor Quarterfinals: Bombay Scottish (Mahim) (5) (Nipun Chauhan 3, Ahsansanali Contractor 2) beat Cathedral and John Connon (0); St Stanislaus (Bandra) (3) (Keaton Talker, Melford Jeddo, Melvin D’Sousa) beat Utpal Sanghvi (Juhu) (0)
