BJP workers stage protest in Delhi, demand probe into fund diversion

Scores of BJP workers today staged a demonstration here demanding a thorough probe into the alleged diversion of SC/ST funds to Commonwealth Games-related projects by Delhi government.

"Chief minister Sheila Dikshit should be sacked for diverting Rs744 crore from the Scheduled Caste welfare schemes to the Games projects," city BJP chief Vijendra Gupta said addressing the protestors.

The police had to use water canons when some of the agitators tried to break barricades to march towards Parliament. Some of the protestors also courted arrest.

Gupta said that Dikshit had denied diversion of the funds though government documents showed otherwise.

The national in-charge of BJP's SC unit Thawar Chand Gehlot said that diversion of funds meant for welfare of dalits was a punishable offence.
