All-India Women's Hockey tourney gets under way in Madhya Pradesh

The First All-India Women's Hockey Tournament being organised by Madhya Pradesh government commenced last night at local Aishbagh Stadium with Chandigarh Academy defeating star-studded Central Railway, Mumbai 1-0.
    
The lone field goal score by Reena for her team in the 15th minute proved to be the match winning strike following which she was adjudged player of the match winning a cash prize Rs2,000 and a trophy.
    
The tournament was inaugurated by senior BJP leader and MP Sumitra Mahajn in the presence of minister of sports and youth welfare Tukoji Rao Powar and Bhopal mayor Krishna Gaur.
    
Though Central Railway cornered a penalty corner within a couple of minutes of the beginning of the match, they failed to convert the opportunity into a goal.
    
Chandigarh Academy then struck in the 15th minute with Reena scoring a field goal following which the score remained 1-0 till the end of first-half.
    
Central Railway Mumbai attempted for levelling the score in the second-half but failed in converting number of chances into goal thus losing the match by 1-0.
    
Former skipper of National Women's Hockey Team, Sunita Chandra, former olympians Syed Jalaluddin Rizvi, Ashok Dhyanchand and Sameer Dad along with the Madhya Pradesh Sports director, Sanjay Choudhry were also present on the occasion.
