Yaya Toure has called on FIFA to impose stringent radical punishments against racist fans as the Manchester United talisman believes racist abuse could 'break' players.

The Ivory Coast international, who found himself on the receiving end of racist abuse at CSKA Moscow last season, said that he had been in the situation where there had been monkey chants and it was difficult to deal with that, the BBC reported.

Toure also said that the racist abuse has the power to 'hurt' and 'break' players, insisting that abusers should be given a radical sanction rather than allowing them to pay mere 20,000 pounds as fine.

In a bid to reduce racial discrimination incidents, FIFA has initiated a new system where match observers will identify and monitor such incidents among the 900-plus qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup, in addition to all 64 games at the finals.
