Paralympic sprinter Oscar Pistorius has claimed that he was filled with terror moments before he shot his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp to death on Valentine's Day last year, during his testimony at the murder trial that included him removing his prosthetic legs to illustrate the events that led to the fatal shooting.

Pistorius broke down in sobs and howls while testifying, forcing the judge hearing the case against the double-amputee runner to call an early adjournment on Tuesday.

According to Fox News, Pistorius claimed that he heard a window open in his bathroom that night, causing him to believe intruders had entered his house and to race to get his gun to defend himself and his girlfriend, who he claimed he thought was still in bed

In Pistorius' narrative, he grabbed his gun from under his bed and headed toward the bathroom screaming, walking on his stumps because he removed his prosthetic legs before he went to bed.

Pistorius added that he was overcome with fear at that point as he was worried an intruder could have lunged at him at any moment while he was vulnerable.

Pistorius began crying while testifying about how he broke down a bathroom door after shooting four times through it, and found Steenkamp inside, insisting that the fatal shooting was a tragic accident caused, in part, by his fear of violent crime.

Pistorius is into his second day of testimony, and was giving an account of what he says are the events in the moments leading up to the shooting that put him on trial for murder, the report added. (ANI)

Pistorius' ex 'warns' Paralympian with 'Last lies you get to tell' tweet

A former girlfriend of Oscar Pistorius had reportedly written `Last lies you get to tell' on her Twitter page before the second day of the Paralympian's testimony at the witness stand at the North Gauteng High Court.

Samantha Taylor, who had testified in the trial, wrote 'Last lies you get to tell. You better make it worth your while' on her Twitter page and although she later deleted the tweet, it had already been retweeted hundreds of times.

News24 reports that while delivering her testimony several weeks ago, Taylor said that she and the Blade Runner broke up because he had cheated on her with his now dead girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, who was shot dead through a locked bathroom door by Pistorius at his home on Valentine's Day last year.

Tuesday marked Pistorius's second day in the dock, the report added.
