Mumbai made a comeback of sorts against Gujarat in the Ranji Trophy final being played at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. Pacers Shardul Thakur and Balwinder Singh Sandhu picked up two wickets each in the first session of Day 3 on Thursday as Parthiv Patel's side got all-out for 328 with a lead of exactly 100.

In the second innings, the defending champions got off to a flying start with Prithvi Shaw smashing a flurry of boundaries. But the Gujarat pacers kept pegging Mumbai back, first removing opener Akhil Herwadkar for 16 and then sending Shaw back to the pavilion for 44 just before the break.

Aditya Tare's side headed into lunch still trailing Gujarat by 34 runs, with eight wickets in hand. Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav were at the crease. Mumbai will have to summon all their grit and determination to be able to bag their 42nd Ranji title.
