In an encouraging move, Hockey India (HI) has made an announcement of rewarding its best performers with cash incentives, following the men's teams' splendid 3-1 series win over World Champions Australia, Down Under.
The awards will be named as the 'Hockey India Annual Awards', where winners would walk away with prizes as big as Rs 25 lakh.
Hockey India's secretary general, Md. Mushtaque Ahmad, said that the awards were launched with an intention to boost the morale of upcoming talent and also added that it may serve as extra motivation for them to perform well in the future.
The individual winners' trophies would be named in honour of HI president, Dr Narinder Batra's son Dhruv, who expired recently.
Ahmad further added that the awards were a mark of respect for Dr Batra, who was a shining example for Indian hockey, overseing it's development and growth over the years.
A trophy, a cash award and a certificate would constitute the winners prize, with the consensus of holding the ceremony being decided at the 26th Meeting of the Hockey India Executive Board, at New Delhi.
