Recalled Test leg-spinner Amit Mishra picked up three of the six Australia 'A' wickets on Friday to give India 'A' a handy first-innings lead on the third and penultimate day of the first 'Test' in Chennai on Friday.

On a MA Chidambaram Stadium pitch, where the spinners have called the shots so far, Mishra, who was on Thursday named in the Test squad after four years for the tour of Sri Lanka, finished with 3/55 while left-arm spinner Pragyan added two to his overnight three scalps to end with 5/85.

At stumps, India 'A' were on 121/3, enjoying an overall lead of 154.

Australia 'A' overnight not out batsmen Peter Handscomb and Marcus Stoinis seemed set to take their side past the India 'A' score and looked good for individual centuries. Handscomb, 24 and right-handed batsman, moved from his overnight 75 to 91, missing his fifth first-class century by nine runs when he was dragged out by Mishra and was duly stumped by Naman Ojha. Discarded Australia senior team wicketkeeper Mathew Wade made only two before being Mishra's second victim.

On Stoinis rested Australians' last hopes of overhauling the home team total but he fell victim to Ojha. The tail folded up without any resistance.

In their second essay, India 'A' were served well by Abhinav Mukund (40) and skipper Cheteshwar Pujara (42). Test batsman KL Rahul shared 39 for the first wicket with Mukund, the former scoring 29 of them with four fours and a six.

Mukund and Pujara hit four and five boundaries, respectively, before getting out towards the fag end of the day's play. Both the wickets were taken by fast medium bowler Gurinder Sandhu (2/13), who was part of Delhi Daredevils in the 2015 IPL. Karnataka's Karun Nair (4) and Mumbai's Shreyas Iyer (4) were at the crease when stumps were drawn.
