There’s a new ‘Apple ID’ profile option now displayed at the top of the Settings menu. This shows your Apple ID info, all the devices currently signed into, as well as quick links to iCloud, iTunes, and the Family Sharing option. Find My AirPods is a new option listed in the ‘Find My iPhone’ app. It keeps track of the last known location of your AirPods, i.e. when connected to an iOS device over Bluetooth, making it somewhat easier to locate the diminutive headphones. If that isn’t enough, you can also use the option to trigger a sound through the AirPods, though this doesn’t work when they’re in their storage case, and is limited to when they’re still connected to a device.
SiriKit, which lets third-party apps access the digital assistant, is being updated to let it pay bills online, check payment statuses, and even schedule future rides with services like Uber.
CarPlay has new shortcuts for launching your most recently used apps, as well as the locations for electric car charging stations.
The Maps app now has a 3D Touch option on the weather icon, that lets you see a weather forecast for your current location
Backup your storage before installing iOS 10.3, as the iPhone's file system will be updated to use the new Apple File System (APFS). APFS is optimised for Flash/SSD storage and brings new features like strong encryption, space sharing, and cloning for files and directories.
Squirrelled away in the settings is an option for a floating one-handed iPad keyboard that can be used on a 9.7-inch or smaller iPad, though it hasn’t yet been activated.
iOS 10.3 is currently only available for developers, but Apple is expected to release it, post beta testing, March or April.
