Even though Samsung just unveiled the Galaxy S8, the company has already begun work for its next flagship – Galaxy S9 – with Qualcomm on a new mobile chip which will be mostly named Snapdragon 845.

According to The Investor, the new Snapdragon 835 chip is produced at Samsung’s manufacturing facilities which will come equipped with the 10-nanometer chip manufacturing technology. The chip claims to boasts 27 percent faster-processing speed and 30 percent more energy efficient compared to a chip based on the preceding 14-nanometer technology. Once the development is complete, either Samsung or TSMC will begin manufacturing the chipset.

Currently, Samsung uses the Snapdragon 835 and the Exynos 8895 chips in its new Galaxy S8 series, both 10nm chips that are faster and more energy-efficient than their predecessors respectively.

“The capabilities of a mobile processor can decide the overall performance of smartphones which now have a range of features such as video calls, video recording, VR, and AR,” an industry source told The Investor. At the moment, the report does not mention about Samsung’s future Exynos chips.
