We know for sure that Windows is working on an update for the current Windows 8 operating system. However, technology blogger Paul Thurrott has further revealed that Windows is planning way ahead and is looking to ship Windows 9 in 2015.

The announcement of Windows 9 will be made in April 2014, according to his blog.

This next major Windows release which is rumored to be called 'Threshold' will have some distinctive changes from its predecessor.

Thurott mentions in his blog that 'Threshold' will likely be titled Windows 9 to 'distance the company from the Windows 8 debacle” because Windows 8 was not very well received by consumers.

Microsoft will allegedly unveil its vision for Windows 9 at the company’s Build 2014 developer conference in April.

The interim Windows' 8.1 update is expected soon and the company sure does need to bring back the excitement in its operating system just as it was during the days of Vista.

A Windows 9 release in 2015 means that the 8.1 has to be really good for loyalists to stick around this year.
