Virtual reality has come a long way from the distant dream it was in the early 2000s. Now, we actually have a variety of devices in the field, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Virtual Reality projects have support, a competitive atmosphere, and sponsorship, and that's reaping results.
Take the VR cricket experience currently touring the UK, as promotional material for the Ashes Series. It's an initiative backed by Yorkshire Tea and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), with the software being developed by BMB London. Fans get a chance to face off on the pitch against Lancashire bowler James Anderson, in a fully immersive virtual reality experience. The setup uses an Oculus Rift (DK2 model) and specially shot full HD footage. But don't let me ruin it, just check out the video below, with retired batsman for Yorkshire, Michael Vaughan. Be amazed.
