A leaked build of the latest version of the Google Translate Android app has shown that it will now decipher words in menus and signs, so that users only have to point their phones at a text image for an instant translation.
The new features are being introduced into the app courtesy of Google’s acquisition of Word Lens, reports Android Police, which already has much of this functionality in place. It will also feature a new multilingual mode where two people can hold a conversation, each in the language of their choice, with the app instantly translating each line. So far the apps functionality works two ways between English and French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Russian, but it can't translate from, say, German to Russian.
