Facebook has announced Gameroom, a PC gaming platform created in collaboration with Unity game engine. The platform is strikingly similar to Steam. However, the service is limited to casual games for now.

At Unity game development platform conference the companies said that games available on Gameroom cannot exceed 200MB. This means that the service will not support triple-A game titles like Call of Duty or Grand Theft Auto though the platform is expected to showcase many Indie games.

Similar to Steam, developers can publish a game on Gameroom in exchange for a 30 percent cut in profit. Gameroom is available for Windows 7 or higher through a free client download.

With Gameroom, It seems like Facebook is looking to claim a portion of Steam’s 125 million active users. The social media juggernaut also has over a billion users, meaning that it could potential lure indie game developers looking for free advertising and marketing.
