Comixology has long been one of the leading distributors of digital comics online. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never used it yourself; if you’re a comic book nerd, odds are you’ve heard of it. So it’s been a little disconcerting that the digital store has slowly sunk under the radar ever since it was bought out by Amazon, way back in 2014. However, that is about to  change drastically.

While it’s been possible to purchase and read graphic novels from Comixology, and even link it to your Amazon account, the company just announced something that’s bound to get it a lot of attention. Amazon has introduced Comixology Unlimited, a new service on the distributor’s website that, instead of buying individual comic books or series, lets you pay for an unlimited membership. Basically, for a paltry US $5.99 a month, you can read as many comic books as you want, and even download them to multiple devices.

The scheme is clearly a nod to Netflix, with its own highly successful pay-and-stream subscriptions. And while it may seem strange to launch something like this for graphic novels, Comixology has some solid reasoning behind it. According to SlashGear, Comixology CEO David Steinberger says the company understands that, while non-comic book readers might be willing to try out something new, graphic novel pricing can be prohibitive. Prices on the website can range from anywhere between US $0.00 to US $12, depending on the publishing house, popularity of the comic book, how old it is, etc. So, for the inexperienced, paying a hefty price to try out something you may not end up liking is a bad deal. On the other hand, paying just US $5.99 for the chance to be able to try out various genres and authors is a much better option.

In addition, to sweeten the deal, Comixology Unlimited is offering a free one-month trial to prospective subscribers. It’ll also work like Netflix, in the way that the content available in the Unlimited section will be rotated in and out of circulation. Unfortunately, Comixology Unlimited is currently only available to customers in the US, but rest assured that the service’s regular shop is unaffected by any of the changes.

In case you’re not sold yet, or perhaps you’re a first-time comic book reader, why not try something from the free section? You never know what you may find to your liking.
