The smartphone market has been on the rise since the past few months with each manufacturer rushing to push a device out the door. With this growth, we’ve also seen an increase in the size of screens for most smartphones. There has been an increase in the popularity of phablets with 5.5” screens as they offer the best of both worlds; they are pocketable when compared to tablets but provide way more screen estate when compared to the average smartphone. All the devices in our list have a 5.5 inch display with Full HD resolution.

OnePlus One 64GB

The OnePlus is probably the oldest device on this list but is also the most sought after device. Termed as the “Flagship Killer” at launch the device did have amazing specifications for the price it was offered. Till recently, you needed to have an invite to buy the product but now it is up for open sale. The One sports a 5.5 inch IPS display with Touch On Lens technology and is powered by a Snapdragon 801 Quad Core Processor clocked at 2.5GHz and 3GB of RAM. The processor is known to use battery frugally while delivering good performance. The OnePlus One is also the cheapest phablet at the moment with 64GB of onboard storage. It’s easier to buy a OnePlus One today probably because the OnePlus Two is around the corner. But today this is still one of the best phablets you can buy.

Asus Zenfone 2

The Asus Zenfone 2 has been in the news recently for being the first phone in the world to sport 4GB of RAM. Yes, that’s right 4GB, with which it should be able to do some heavy multitasking. This smartphone is powered by an Intel Atom Quad Core processor. The device comes in 4 variants and as of now only the 32GB & 64GB models come with 4GB of RAM, so you might want to check thoroughly before placing the order. The phone runs on ZenUI on top of Android 5.0 Lollipop. ZenUI comes with a few apps pre-installed but is pretty close to stock Android when it comes to features like Priority notifications, Multi User and Power Saver mode to name a few.

Samsung Galaxy A7

Samsung was the manufacturer that started the whole phablet craze with their Galaxy Note Series. While the Note series still offer the best, they do come at a steep price. Samsung have introduced other cheaper options to get the same phablet experience at a lower price (minus the stylus). The Galaxy A7 is the best on offer from Samsung at the moment and comes with a true metal frame. Samsung has also switched to Snapdragon processors for their mid range devices, which are much better compared to the Broadcomm chips they used earlier. The Galaxy A7 is powered by a Snapdragon 615 Octa Core Processor clocked at 1.5GHz and has 2GB of RAM. The phone comes with Samsung TouchWiz UI on top of Android 4.4 KitKat and is expected to get an update to Lollipop soon. The device is easily available and does not need any invite system or flash sale.

HTC Desire 826

While Samsung started the segment, HTC has been the one to keep it going. With highly successful products like the Desire 816, Desire 816G, Desire 820, Desire 820q it looks like HTC nailed the perfect combination. The Desire 826 is the latest phone in the market from the smartphone maker. The device has the same design as others but now comes with a 1080p display, as compared to the 720p display on the Desire 820. It’s powered by the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 Octa Core Processor clocked at 1.7GHz. The phone has 2GB of RAM and runs HTC’s Sense UI on top of Android 5.0 Lollipop. The phone has a 13 megapixel rear camera and a 13 megapixel front facing camera. If your usage requires a good front facing camera then the Desire 826 is your best pick.

Honor 6 Plus

Honor is the latest entrant in the Indian smartphone market and the Honor 6 Plus is the phone that competes against the others. The device is a Flipkart exclusive product and can be bought without any registrations. The phone is really powerful, powered with a 1.8GHz Octa Core Processor made by Huawei themselves. To help the processor with intensive tasks it has 3GB of RAM. The device comes with Huawei’s custom EMUI on top of Android 4.4 Kitkat. The Honor 6 Plus is a Dual SIM model internationally but in India it is sold as a single SIM device, with the 2nd slot used only for microSD cards. This is unforunate, considering the demand for Dual SIM phones in India. One big advantage the Honor 6 Plus has, is the huge 3600mAh battery which should help it soldier on longer than the others.

These were the top 5 phablets that are worth considering for under Rs 25,000. Which one would you pick?
