Ward boy tries to rape French tourist

A French girl was molested at Hallett Hospital, Kanpur, on Saturday. The hospital initially tried to hush up the matter, but diplomatic authorities forced it to get a police case registered. The accused ward boy has been arrested.

Heather Wedz, 21, were holidaying in India with her British boyfriend James Hawkins. They were on a train from Patna to Kolkata to catch a flight to the UK. But Heather had a stomach upset on the way and they got down at Kanpur for medical help.

The two went to Hallett Hospital on Saturday evening. There, as she waited in the doctors’ room, ward boy Dalbir allegedly tried to molest her. He fled as she cried out for help. Heather and James complained to hospital authorities, but they paid no heed.

On Sunday, the British high commission called up the hospital and forced it to initiate action in
the case.
