Teenaged kidnapper arrested for holding toddler to ransom

A toddler was rescued from the clutches of a teenaged kidnapper, who allegedly abducted his employer's son to fund his travel to Mumbai and settle down there.

Mohd Imran (19) allegedly kidnapped Amanullah, the one-and-half-year-old son of his employer, on June one evening from his house in Sui Walan area in central Delhi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Jaspal Singh said on Thursday.

The boy's father, Mohd Azmal, who runs a handicraft unit in Sui Walan, had reported to police that his son was missing since June one. Immediately, a case of kidnapping was filed and the employees working in the unit were questioned.

Investigators found that one employee, Imran, was missing since the date of incident. Azmal, in the meantime, received a ransom call demanding Rs five lakh.

Azmal managed to negotiate at Rs two lakh which was to be delivered at Ghaziabad railway station on June 3, Singh said.

A trap was laid and the bag purportedly containing money was placed at the place suggested by the kidnapper, he said adding that when Imran tried to pick the bag, he was caught.

During questioning, Imran told police that he kidnapped the child to arrange money for himself to go to Mumbai and settle down there, Singh said.

He also revealed that the boy had been kept by him in the residence of his previous employer Israel in Saini Sangpura village in Noida. He had allegedly told Israel that he found the child abandoned in the market.
