CID officials seal Jadeja’s bank accounts; seize jewellery, cash, property deal papers worth Rs 15 crore.
In the most recent development, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officials investigating the biggest scam in the state opened the bank locker of divine doctor Ashok Jadeja alias Ashok Didawala, and seized gold, diamond and silver jewellery worth between Rs25 lakh and Rs30 lakh.
So far, the police have foiled property deals and seized cash and jewellery collectively amounting to around Rs15 crore.
Jadeja’s locker in Dena Bank at Sarkhej was opened on Tuesday afternoon in the presence of the investigating officer RK Patel. “We not only seized all the jewellery we found in his locker, but have also sealed his other bank accounts,” a source in the CID said.
The source also said that the police have so far recovered money, seized as well as foiled property deals worth around Rs15 crore.
The CID found links with many other property deals finalised by the fraudster and his confederates. “He has invested a large amount of money in real estate,” said the source, adding that he had made advance payments to land owners in Dholka, Dhandhuka and Sanand.
“He purchased land in others’ names to mislead the investigating agency,” the source said. “His subordinates had made an advance payment to these land owners; the remaining amount was to be transacted in a short time. We have identified and forestalled a number of such deals,” said Patel.
The police have recovered a large amount of money that was paid in advance to finalise property deals. “We are now focusing on recovering the maximum amount of money,” Patel added.
Additional director-general of CID (Crime) VV Rabari said the police were focusing on recovering the money and also on trying to nab Jadeja’s associates.
