The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has convened a 2-day meeting on Sunday and Monday to decide the modalities of the functioning of the Godhra and post-Godhra riot cases. The meeting will discuss protection of witnesses in general and in the court in particular as well as finalise the public prosecutors for all these cases.

Apart from the SIT chairman, RK Raghavan, Geetha Johri and Sivanand Jha will also remain present in the meeting. Former special director of CBI, Parmendra Singh will replace Sathpathy, who is no longer with the SIT.

The SIT has already decided the judges and the places where the concerned cases will be prosecuted. “Now when the judges have been decided, we will be finalising the public prosecutors in the case on Monday,” a source in SIT told DNA.

According to SIT sources, the prime concern for SIT at present is to provide proper security to all the witnesses and the complainants in all the cases. “Raghavan will be monitoring the security measures required to conduct the legal proceedings,” the source said.

He will also look into the security measures for safe transportation of the witnesses and the complainants from the court back to their homes. SIT has already received many applications pertaining to increase in police protection from witnesses and the complainants from Naroda-Patia, Naroda Gaam and Gulbarg cases.

“We have scrutinised all the applications and will decide on the people who need to be provided more police protection,” the SIT source said. The paramilitary forces from central government will be utilised for additional protection of the witnesses in all these cases.

The SIT is taking extra measures to see to the security of the witnesses and if needed additional police official will be provided to the witnesses and the complainants of the Godhra and post Godhra riots cases.
