Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray on Saturday reiterated that his party would fight to keep the Marathis dominant in Mumbai. He criticised Congress leaders Krupashankar Singh and Sanjay Nirupam for crediting north Indians for their party’s clean sweep of Mumbai in the recent Parliamentary polls.

In an editorial in the party mouthpiece Saamana, Thackeray calls Singh and Nirupam a snake and a cobra respectively, and warns them for acting against the interests of Marathi people. “Leaders from UP and Bihar are saying that no one can stop their people from entering Mumbai. But it was Maharashtra which dug Aurangazeb’s grave. If you [poke fun at] the Marathi people, we will dig your grave too,” Thackeray writes.

“No states other than Maharashtra, Punjab and Rajasthan have a history of producing warriors. All the rulers in north India were either slaves of the Mughals or the British. Maharashtra has been fighting intruders for 500 years. Maharashtrians have combat in their genes,” he adds.

Thackeray continues: “Delhi always fear that Marathis will become rulers one day. We (Maharashtra) always preferred the country over business. Others preferred business over the country. They struck deals with the British. Marathas always resorted to the sword. No one dare look askance at Maharashtra while the sword is strong; Sonia Gandhi said that Mumbai belongs to everyone. Who has given her the right to decide Mumbai’s fate? In fact, she is an outsider to the country. The people who want to see Marathi people gone from Mumbai, will first have to take on the Shiv Sena.”

Thackeray alleged that the Congress has used Mumbai like a prostitute to earn money of. “Shiv Sena still has the guts to cut off the hands that try to separate Mumbai from Maharashtra,” Thackeray says.
