IG-led team to grill lion poacher

Mastermind of lion poaching, Minter Nanka, from Kutiya village in Madhya Pradesh is currently on 12-day police remand.

It took over one-and-a-half years for the CID Crime to nab the mastermind of lion poaching, Minter Nanka, from Kutiya village in Madhya Pradesh on May 14. Nanka is currently on 12-day police remand and the police are expecting crucial information from him in the much-talked about lion poaching case in Bhavnagar and Junagadh districts.

Nanka has been arrested in a wildlife case in which all other accused have already been convicted by the court. 

Keshav Kumar, IG, prisons, who is heading the investigation, along with a wildlife research team from Nagpur and members of forensic science laboratory reached Bhavnagar a few days back to interrogate Nanka. The entire investigation is held under the supervision of additional director general of police, CID Crime, VV Rabari.

Nanka lived in Bhandaria village in Palitana near Bhavnagar in the disguise of a Brahmin and operated in Gujarat to kill the lions along with his gang and sell them in other states or country. It is believed that Nanka has poached around 10 lions. 

IG, prisons, on special duty

Even though Keshav Kumar, as IG, prisons,  is not involved in cases handled by CID Crime, he has been told by the DG office to get associated with the lion poaching case. Kumar led probe into the case when he was posted as DIG, CID Crime
