The Chandkheda police on Tuesday arrested Prafful Thakkar, owner of two oil mills in Banaskantha for allegedly raping one Rakshita Panchal, 20, (name changed), a student of a reputed university in New Zealand and the complainant, who is now settled in Ahmedabad. Police has also booked brother of the accused Shailesh Thakkar for alleged involvement in the case.

Panchal had met Prafful when she visited the city last year during Navaratri. “Prafful had promised to marry her and got physically involved with her. The two even got married secretly,” a source in the Chandkheda police told DNA.

“Both of them got married in an Arya Samaj temple; Prafful also arranged for a flat in Satellite area for Panchal to live in,” said the source. According to Panchal, Prafful had also forced her to abort their child when she told him about her pregnancy.

Later, however, when Panchal found out that Prafful is a married man and a father of two, she filed a police complaint against him. “She was shocked to learn that her husband was already married,” said the source. “Panchal said it was Prafful’s brother Shailesh who had introduced her to him. We have therefore arrested Shailesh too,” said TS Patel, PI at Chandkheda police station.  Before getting married to Prafful, Panchal was living with her father in Chandkheda. Prafful is the owner of two oil mills, Vaishnavdevi Oil Mill in Chandisar and PK Oil Mill in Deesa.
