Keen to start a new university by 2011, members of the Brahmin Mahasangh have dived headlong into making the dream into a reality.

The university, which will be run by members of the community, will be called the Parshuram University. “Our first task is to contact people and raise funds. We plan to meet well-to-do people from the community to draw the plan and the blue print of the university,” said Madhav Ghule, an official of the mahasangh.

“Though the final location hasn’t been decided, our first preference is Pune.” he added.
Ghule claimed that admissions in the proposed university would be open for members of all castes. “Our aim is to get deemed status for the university. It will be mainly for those students who fail to get admission in professional courses due to inadequate marks or money.

“There will be no reservations and the admissions will be given based upon merit. Only eligible students will be admitted no matter what caste they belong to,” he said, adding that the university is a dream project of the mahasangh.

“We have members from all regions of the country. The organisation will not be a platform for the Maharashtrian Brahmins only,” he said.
