A lawyer, who had created judicial problems for Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati in the past, on Tuesday reopened litigation against the CBI by moving the Supreme Court against the agency’s decision to delete Ottavio Quattrocchi’s name from the list of accused in the Bofors Howitzer pay-off case.
Lawyer Ajay Agrawal sought a stay on withdrawal of the red corner notice against Quattrocchi who has not appeared before any court in India after he was let off on bail some years ago.
The Centre has spent millions of rupees in the politically sensitive scam that involved a sum of Rs64 crore in pay-off. Aggarwal had earlier drawn the court’s attention to the government’s indifference to defreezing of Quattrocchi’s bank account.
