Probe against five cops for accepting bribe

Five policemen, including one ASI, have been transferred to the headquarters after they were alleged to have taken bribe from two bootleggers who were arrested with 50 boxes of foreign liquors some days back.

According to sources, two bootleggers — Majeed and Abdul Hameed — were caught with foreign liquor from housing board near Bapunagar. On Friday, during their interrogation, they said they were earlier nabbed in an area under Rakhial police station but five policemen freed them after taking bribe.

Sources said the police department took immediate action after their confession. The case is being investigated by PI MD Chaudhary.

Minor girl kidnapped 
The Vejalpur police have lodged a kidnapping case against three persons. Police said Raju Jhapadia and two others kidnapped a girl, Rita Solanki (17), while she was going to market along with her mother Gauriben. When the mother-daughter duo reached near Vasna, two persons in a car approached them offering lift.  The two then took the mother-daughter duo to Sarkhej where they pushed Guariben out of the car and sped away. Gauriben has lodged a case against Jhapadia and two others in this connection. A police team have left for Vanala village in Surendranagar district to nab Jhapadia.

IT commissioner booked
The Naranpura police on Friday registered a prohibition case against assistant income-tax commissioner Ghanshyam Singh Meena. The case was lodged on the basis of a complaint filed by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) inspector VK Zala. Meena was caught red-handed by the ACB while taking a bribe of Rs2 lakh on Thursday afternoon at Income-tax office, Navrangpura. On Friday, the ACB sleuths again conducted raid at Meena’s official residence at Pragatinagar in Naranpura and recovered bottles of Indian made foreign liquor from his house. The seized liquor bottles are worth Rs2,000.
