Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) International president Ashok Singhal said on Friday that temples in Gandhinagar were demolished for constructive purpose.

“Chief minister Narendra Modi is not against temples. He has promised me that he will provide land to build temples,” said Singhal while addressing a press conference at the VHP office here on Friday. He was replying to a query on his organisation supporting a party which had demolished so many temples in Gandhinagar.

When asked why he had compared Modi with Gazani at the time of temple demolition, the VHP leader said he had a cordial relationship with Modi and he can say anything to him and Modi will listen to him.

Singhal said allegations against VHP leader Jaideep Patel were politically motivated and soon he would be proved innocent.  Alleging that the UPA government at the Centre wanted to prove all sadhu-sants as terrorists, he said an organisation, Dharm Raksha Manch (DRM), has been formed to raise the voice of sadhus.
