A large crowd braved the scorching sun and waited for almost an hour just to have a look at Sonia Gandhi as she walked into the ground of KNSBL Arts & Commerce College at Kheralu village in Mehsana district. People from Vadodara, Dahod and Panchmahals had arrived at the meet venue in trucks, tempo, jeeps and buses.

The caps, however, provided major respite to the crowd. Many could be seen using wet towels to escape the heat. As soon as a helicopter was spotted in the sky, the crowds started waving to the chopper. An over-enthusiastic policeman quickly pulled down a youth from the chair he was standing on.

The 20-something youngster politely told the cop, “Sonia ne jova mate to ahian aavyo chhu sahib (I have come here to see Sonia Gandhi, sir).”

Dressed in her trademark red-bordered sari, Sonia started her speech by thanking the crowd for waiting for her patiently in such oppressive heat. She then reminded the people of the grand history of Congress party, and followed it up by the recent achievements of the Congress-led UPA government.

Reacting to BJP's unrelenting campaign terming Manmohan Singh as a weak prime minister, Sonia said that the BJP leaders were unable to take a decision on their own without asking anyone, the obvious allusion being the Sangh leaders.
