The Ahmedabad police on Wednesday arrested a man for raping his 14-year-old step daughter. Despite being in a state of shock, the victim gathered the courage to file a complaint against her father, but was disappointed when the Amraivadi police refused to register her complaint on grounds that the area did not fall under their jurisdiction.

The accused, identified as Suresh Thakore, a resident of Sambhubhai Ni Chali near Hartkeshwar depot, had been raping his daughter Poonam (name changed) since March but was arrested only after Poonam lodged a complaint with the Ramol police on Wednesday.

Thakore has been sent to two days of police remand while the girl has been sent for medical test. Ramol police station PI, KM Jadeja said, “We booked Thakore based
on the complaint filed by the girl. We also learnt that Thakore is the girl’s step father.”

A source said that Thakore had married Poonam’s mother Dakshaben some two year back after her first husband passed away. A labourer by profession, Thakore has been living with Daksha and Poonam at Sambhubhai Ni Chali since then.

However, on March 19, Daksha died of some illness after which Thakore allegedly raped Poonam thrice. Unable to bear the torture meted out by her step father, Poonam approached the Amraivadi police a number of times, narrating the incident, but they refused to lodge her complaint saying that the area where the incident occurred did not come under their jurisdiction.
