Chief minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday, once again, took a dig at Gandhi family, saying that 'SRP' were behind him and Advaniji after they raised the issue of black money.

He also attacked prime minister saying that it was during his tenure as finance minister and prime minister that scams like Harshad Mehta's and Satyam took place. In another significant move, which will hamper Congress chances in Vadodara, Yuvraj Samjeetsingh Gaekwad announced his and family's support for BJP's candidate Balkrishna Shukla, which was greeted with roar of approval from the crowd.

Taking time off his busy schedule, Modi addressed two public meetings, one at Savli on Tuesday and the other in Vadodara city, on Wednesday. This move makes it evident that despite a strong foothold in Vadodara, BJP does not want to take any chance.

A huge crowd gathered to listen to the man who has largely been credited for putting Gujarat into fast track of development. At the meet, Modi, who has been concentrating on central Gujarat since the time the Vibrant Summit ended, targeted the UPA government, particularly prime minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

What has kept the party on its toes is the fact that the Vadodara seat was won by a Congress candidate in the 2007 assembly elections with a margin of over 5,000 votes. This time, BJP has fielded Balu Shukla for contesting elections from the constituency. And, although the party claims that Shukla is popular among the urban voters, a dash of Modi's charisma would only strengthen party's chances to win the seat.

The two public meetings addressed by Gujarat chief minister for the Vadodara Lok Sabha constituency clearly reflect how important the seat is for Modi. Moreover, the thin margin of about 6,600 votes between BJP MP Jayaben Thakkar and his rival and now the Congress candidate Satyajitsinh Gaekwad in the last elections may be a matter of concern, as Congress has launched an aggressive campaign to win the seat. The Congress has already brought film star Salman Khan and the visit, party sources say, seems to have galvanised support of youth in favour of Congress. Rahul Gandhi is also expected to visit Vadodara for a roadshow.

According to sources in BJP, the special attention given to Vadodara by the chief minister may play a vital role in securing a victory by for the party by a big margin.
