Hema Malini to campaign for BJP in Gujarat; Congress ropes in Mahima, Murad.
With just a week left for the Lok Sabha election in the state, campaigning has reached a feverish pitch. The two major parties in the fray, BJP and Congress, have left no stone unturned to attract voters in their favour. Both parties have organised election meetings featuring top political leaders as well as celebrities in a bid to polarise voters in their favour in the last, but most defining moments of the election.
Gujarat will go to the polls in a single phase on April 30 and will witness hectic campaigning in the run-up. While the BJP is banking on its star campaigners, led by Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi and party president Rajnath Singh, the Congress is seeking the help of Bollywood stars to boost its chances.
According to the BJP’s media cell, Modi will address seven public meetings in various parts of the state, including Dariapur and Isanpur in Ahmedabad, on Thursday. Rajnath Singh will address three meetings, in Ahmedabad, Surat and Upleta. Noted actor Hema Malini, who is also a Rajya Sabha member, will address three meetings for the BJP, in Mehmedabad, Porbander and Umreth, on Thursday.
Not to be left behind, actor Mahima Chaudhary will campaign for the Congress in Ahmedabad and Mehsana, convenor of the Congress’s coordination committee, Badruddin Sheikh told reporters on Wednesday. “Mahima Chaudhary will arrive on Thursday and attend a women’s seminar in Mehsana, which will be followed by public meetings in the Ahmedabad East constituency,” he said.
The actor will address public meetings in Bardoli, Navsari, Surat and Valsad on Friday, before returning to Mumbai, Sheikh said. Also, noted character actor Raza Murad will address poll rallies in Anand, Bharuch, Nadiad and Vadodara. Sheikh said that Murad will camp in Anand, Nadiad and Vadodara on Thursday before leaving for Bharuch on Friday.
Former BJP MP and union minister, Arun Shourie will campaign in Ahmedabad and other cities on Friday, while senior leader Arun Jaitley will canvass for party candidates on Saturday.
