India had a mixed day at the USD 50,000 ATP Challenger event in Tallahassee, United States, as Prakash Amritraj advanced to the second round but Somdev Devvarman, country's numero uno singles player, crashed out of the tournament.
Prakash had to dig deep into his reserves to beat local wild card Michael McClune 6-7(3) 7-5 7-6(3) in his opening round.
He will meet another American and fourth seed Vincent Spadea in the pre-quarterfinals.
Somdev made an early exit after losing his first round match 3-6 3-6 against Australian Marinkc Matosevic.
