Terming the Congress as "doctor" and SP and BSP as "compounders", Bollywood filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt on Tuesday said the regional parties will not be able to heal the "wound" of the country which is "running deep" due to continuous attacks by the "communal forces".

Seeking votes in favour of Congress in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls, Bhatt, who has made a mark in the film industry with many blockbusters, including 'Zakhm', based on communal hatred, said the small parties will only help the BJP by dividing Congress voters.

"Being a national party, Only Congress can play the role of a doctor in healing the country's wounds running deep due to communal forces. Smaller parties like SP and BSP are like compounders," the filmmaker said.

"Congress is the only party which can raise voices of Muslims and other suppressed communities. It does not ask votes on the basis of religion or cast," he said, "whereas other parties want to grab power by dividing people".

The filmmaker was addressing public gatherings at several places in the state as part of an election awareness campaign launched by 'Millat Bedari Muhim'.

"I will remain part of the caravan which has embarked on a mission to make people aware of communal forces ahead of the Lok Sabha polls," Bhatt said.

Bhatt who shared the dias with UPCC president and Congress nominee from Lucknow seat Rita Bahuguna Joshi, said that an effective anti-communal stance was required by all, irrespective of their faiths.

"The regional players in the political arena are short sighted and lack national perspective and Congress at the national level was required also to implement the Sachchar committee recommendations for the amelioration of the lot of Muslims", Bhatt said.

The filmmaker, however, denied having plans to join any political party in future.

"I am with Congress for the interest of the nation. The moment I feel it is not fulfilling the expectation of people, I will be the first one to oppose the party," he added.

Praising Congress for its approach towards minority community, Bhatt said that he hopes party will do something for the Muslims if comes to power after the elections.
