Amdavadi Pols will go to Spain

Ahmedabad is going global these days. After signing an MoU with Shanghai to market urban development by participating in the Shanghai Expo 2010, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has plan to showcase city’s heritage and architecture in the Ahmedabad fair in Spain likely to be held around September this year.

Sources in the AMC say that the city’s rich heritage and architectural glory will be displayed in a special fair organised as part of its Friendship Treaty with Spain. “City mayor had gone to Spain and a Friendship Treaty was signed.

As per the treaty the two partners have decided to exchange ideas on heritage and tourism. The Ahmedabad Festival to be organised in Spain is part of this treaty,” said a source close to development.

Ahmedabad hosts some of the famous heritage monuments as well as boasts of one of the best plans for conservation of heritage monuments which help the city exhibit its monuments apart from the conservation and renovation work done in the Walled City’s ‘Pol’ houses in collaboration with Housing and Urban Development Corporation Ltd (Hudco).

“Mainly we will be exhibiting heritage structures and work done in city, as there can be exchange of ideas focusing on similarities,” the source said.

The AMC plans to showcase urban projects’ contribution like Sabarmati Riverfront Project, Bus Rapid Transit System apart from other works in Shanghai. The Shanghai Expo will continue for six months and the civic body will get $3 Lakh to participate in the expo.
