‘I owe my rise to you’

Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP from Bharuch, Ahmed Patel, turned unexpectedly emotional at a public rally on Monday evening in Dayadra, Bharuch. He was reminiscing about the years he had contested elections from the seat, and won thrice.

“I am where I am today because of your support,” he said misty-eyed.

“I will never be able to repay you this debt.” 

He went on to say: “Whether I am an MP or not, I will always work for you.” Congress workers broke into applause after a moment’s shock.

“We have never seen him like this; I wonder what overcame him,” said a veteran Congressman. Patel was addressing his fourth public rally in two days in Bharuch in Dayadra. Earlier in the day, the old warhorse of the region, now among the country’s most powerful politicians, addressed a gathering at Jambusar.

 In addition to the usual Modi, Advani  bashing, the Congress strategist candidly admitted that BJP’s poll agenda of bringing back the country’s black money from foreign banks, was indeed a good idea.“After the Congress-led UPA returns to power, the first thing we will do is consult Advaniji on his magic formula,” he mocked.
