Taking a dig at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi said Singh was upset with LK Advani’s ‘weak prime minister’ comment and was trying to change his image.

“Earlier, he used to speak five words, of which only three were audible. However, after Advani’s comment, Singh had not only started speaking louder but also tried to raise his shoulder while speaking,” Modi told an amused audience at an election rally at Bapa Sitaram Chowkri in Nawa Naroda in Ahmedabad East Lok Sabha constituency. Modi said nobody becomes strong by speaking louder or raising shoulders.

“If Congress party wants to show that it is strong enough, it should punish Afzal Guru, the prime accused in the Parliament attack case,” said Modi.

Modi sought to remind the people that the Gujarat police had arrested people involved in Ahmedabad serial blasts within two months of the blasts. By doing this, Gujarat created an example for other states, he said.

Modi said that for development of country two parameters are needed: Development projects and citizen’s security. Congress has failed to provide these two to people, he said, adding that only BJP can provide development and security to people.

Modi, the BJP’s star campaigner, also addressed several election meetings in Banaskantha, Sabarkantha and Mehsana on Sunday. “The inflation is rising since the Congress come on power of the Delhi,” said Modi blaming Congress for high prices of essential goods. “Common man is living in fear and Congress is playing vote bank politics to retain power,” he said.

Addressing an election rally in Amirgadh, Modi said, “Soniaji (Gandhi) is trying to appease the minority community for votes. This is Congress’s vote bank politics. But we talk about poor from all sections of the society,” he said.

“Congress is not interested in development issues, they just want to remain in power for which they indulge in vote bank politics,” Modi alleged. He said Congress has promised wheat to the poor at Rs3 per kg if it comes to power.

“But my government (in Gujarat) has been giving wheat at Rs2 per kg for four years,” he said. “Let me tell you what they (Congress) are going to do. They will buy wheat at Rs2 per kg from us and sell it to you at Rs3 per kg and make profit of one rupee in the process,” Modi said.

Modi promised that once the BJP comes to power in Centre, all the problems faced by the people will be solved and they need not even have to make effort for it.
