Campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections is in full swing and candidates of all political parties are leaving no stone unturned to woo voters.
As a part of this, the Congress is distributing the IPL schedule, along with candidate’s photographs and his or her achievements, among the voters. They don’t want to miss even a single voter and like in the final overs of Twenty-20 matches, trying to approach every voter without wasting their time. The party workers have come up with other innovative things too like wooing voters through folk songs, theme songs and celebrity visits.
The Congress candidates in various constituencies across the state are distributing the pocket-sized IPL schedule among the voters with photographs of Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh and the candidate printed on the cover. Some candidates have even mentioned their contributions to the development works carried out in the constituency.
Talking to DNA, city president of Congress, Suresh Patel, said, “The idea behind distributing the IPL schedule along with the candidate’s details is to make the voters acquaint with the works done by the candidates in the fray. Generally, people don’t read the details in leaflets, but they will love to keep the IPL schedule and will go through the details of the candidates whenever they get time. Not only that, we have kept the size of the cards very small so that it could fit in their pockets. More and more people will read the cards as the cricket enthusiasts will show them to others too. We are happy because the response is very encouraging.”
When asked about reactions from other parties, Congress workers said the Congress googly had stumped its rivals and voters, especially the die-hard cricket fans, are eager to enjoy the IPL matches with Congress cards to guide them. “In fact, people are coming to us to get the schedule. This has helped us reach the young voters,” said a worker.
