The first thing that one noticed on entering the Canon Lounge in Atria mall was the kids running around, clicking away with a digital camera.

The occasion was the inauguration of ‘Our World, One World’, a photography exhibition by children living in the slums of Delhi, organised by the Ship for World Youth Alumni Association - India (SWYAA-India) and Canon, India.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Kensaku Konishi, president and CEO, Canon India and Alok Bharadwaj, senior vice president, Canon India. The exhibition is a part of an awareness campaign on underprivileged kids of our country and is on at the Canon Lounge, Atria Mall till May 9.

The children attended a month-long workshop where they learnt the basics of photography like the difference between a digital camera and a normal camera and camera angles, perspective and treatment of different subjects,” said Devinder Singh, the in-charge of the workshop.

The workshop comprised of 30 kids, selected from various slum clusters of Delhi like Mayapuri, Delhi Cantonment, Rewari Line, among others.

All photos depict everyday life as seen by the kids. Four kids, Bharti, Ravi, Madhu and Kirti had come to inaugurate the exhibition in Mumbai.

Canon donated three cameras as a part of their Corporate Social Responsibility program. “We decided to give cameras instead of donating money for charity,” said Alok Bharadwaj, senior vice president, Canon India.
