The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested a senior police inspector of the Vadodara crime branch and a police constable for accepting a bribe of Rs1.75 lakh from a scrap dealer.

Raju Farooq Sheikh, the scrap dealer, had informed the ACB that senior police inspector JJ Sarvaiyya had asked him for a bribe of Rs3 lakh. Sheikh, a scrap dealer in Makarpura, had been interrogated in the case of theft of a boiler worth Rs4.5 crore.

Sarvaiyya had interrogated many scrap dealers, including Sheikh, in connection with the case and had allegedly demanded money from them all. “Sheikh told this to local journalists, who filed a complaint with the ACB,” a source in the ACB said.

Police inspectors RH Sindhi and Deepak Vyas of the ACB laid a trap for Sarvaiyya and police constable Mahendrasinh. They were arrested early in the evening on Wednesday.
