There’s been an indispensable addition to politicians’ wardrobe this season —- the bullet-proof jacket.

Though you can’t tell them from the regular variety, these jackets can easily take a hit from 9mm, 44 magnum bullets. A sophisticated version can even provide cover against an AK-47 .

Rahul More, whose firm magnaera.com manufactures the jackets, says his buyers come from Maharashtra, UP, Delhi, Haryana, Chattishgarh and Jharkhand. “I have sold 100 jackets in the past month,” he says, but will not give out names of clients.

More, who was here to exhibit his products, foresees more clients on his list. “This need for protective clothing was more keenly felt after the Mumbai terror attacks,” he says. “Politicians are willing to shell out anything between Rs40,000 to Rs1.20 lakh on one. Most netas send their confidants to tell me the colour or cut they prefer,” he adds.
