A judge of the district and rural court has ordered the Sabarmati Central Jail authorities to provide medical treatment to two inmates who were allegedly thrashed by the authorities last week. The court also ordered them to submit a report on the incident on Monday.

The two jail inmates, Jahid Abdul Kaiyum Khan and Imtiyaz Mastan Alam Khan, were produced in bloodstained clothes before judge PP Trivedi of the Ahmedabad district and rural court, on Thursday. They submitted before the court that they had been thrashed by the jail authorities on March 27 and had not been provided with medical treatment despite being severely injured.

Lawyer Chandrashekhar Gupta, who appeared on behalf of Jahid Khan, an accused in the Nehrunagar bomb blast case, submitted in court that his client, who was lodged in the Single Kholi barrack, was dragged outside the barrack on March 27 and brutally thrashed, and that he was threatened against uttering a word about the incident.

Gupta further submitted that the jail authorities did not provide Javed Khan with medical treatment and also did not forward his written complaint to the court. The judge then ordered the jail authorities to submit a report in this regard on April 6.

Imtiyaz Khan, accused in a murder case, submitted through lawyer Shamshad Khan Pathan that he was beaten by the authorities on March 27 and was not provided with medical treatment despite being severely injured.
